The Scholarship is designed to provide not only financial assistance but counselling and community support to a Grade 12 student who  has the courage to commit to overcoming the devastating effect of drug addiction.  The Second Chance Scholarship will be available to all High Schools throughout Manitoba (funding permitted).

In partnership with local and national businesses we will be providing a scholarship as well as a life gift package consisting of vouchers for everyday necessities such as food, clothing, transportation, school supplies and more.  Our goal is to give this individual an opportunity to further his or her education and a chance to achieve their full potential while struggling with the challenges of drug addiction.

Second Chance Scholarship Criteria

At the Soy Foundation, we understand the challenges and struggles all types of addiction have on our Youth. We believe all manners of substance abuse are a serious epidemic in our society and hope one day we can address them all. At this time, we are focusing on the most serious one – Opiates and Prescription Drugs. They are the most difficult and most dangerous drugs that are destroying the lives of our Youth and their Families. The goal of the Second Chance Scholarship is to provide our Youth with the support and opportunity that so many good kids lose when battling prescription drug addiction.

We have four simple criteria  and yet for most youth struggling with the day to day challenges of addiction, they will find them difficult.

• They must accept they have an addiction and be actively participating in a drug treatment program and or committed to attending one.
• They must be committed to furthering their education by enrolling in one of the following post-secondary educational institutions such as a university, community or technical college that is recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
• Submit a short story or paragraph on how, when and why you feel you become addicted. Let us know about the daily struggles you face and what you feel you have to do to overcome these challenges. Please attach to the application form.
• Submit a Second Chance Scholarship application form online or by mail.

One of the most difficult realizations we have as a society is breaking the stigma of drug addiction. Until we admit to the current devastation and future consequences of this epidemic in our communities, we are failing our Youth.
